What is the acid reflux diet?
Acid reflux is also known as gastroesophagael reflux disease and in abbreviated form, it is known as GERD. Acid reflux is a condition when
careful attention to diet is needed for successful management. The acid reflux diet is the list of foods which is necessary to be included in the
diet and the foods which are strictly discarded from your diet in order to control the pain and symptoms of acid reflux. Acid reflux is usually
caused by obesity, smoking, alcohol, hiatal hernia, sometimes pregnancy, but these are the few causes and all the causes of the acid reflux is
not known.
Acid Reflux Diet
Acid reflux diet should be designed with well balanced and healthy foods and less amount of processed and dry foods as they are not healthy
for your stomach. Water is the essential component and one must have sufficient amount daily but caffeinated beverages should be avoided
strictly. For the patient of acid reflux, diet charts are divided into sections. One section has the foods to be taken and the other one have the
foods that are to be avoided. Safe foods can be divided into two sections, first one have the list of foods which can be eaten daily without
restrictions and the second one has the list of safe foods which are definitely safe, but the acid reflux patients should have them in small
potions occasionally.
Safe food that can be eaten regularly in large portions:- As the patients suffer from acid reflux, the diet should be such
that supports them in gaining health. The foods which these patients can have easily and can eat in sufficient amount are the apples and bananas
in fruits. In vegetables, broccoli, carrots, peas, green beans, etc is great as these vegetables have energy and less cholesterol and boost the
metabolism rate in your body also. In proteins acid reflux patients can have chicken breast and fish which are available in their area, but try
to have fresh cut fish and chicken instead of freezed one, as they are better for your health. In carbohydrate, fat free cheese is good if not
available you can have low fat cheese also, with whole grain bread and rice.
Safe food that requires to be eaten carefully:-
Berries and grapes can be eaten but in small amount. Garlic and lean meats can be eaten occasionally with non alcoholic bears, wines, sodas,
reduces fate cookies and yogurt. If the patients with acid reflux eat these foods in little potion and occasionally then they will be fine and
healthy.
Foods to be avoided:-
Citrus fruits like lime, grapes, oranges and any other fruit which belongs to citrus family should be strictly avoided. Cranberry juice and
tomatoes is not good and even recipes which have tomato as the main ingredient like tomato stuffing, tomato salads and baked tomatoes should be
avoided. Peppers, onions, dairy products, caffeine, high fat foods, deli meat, cheese, fatty cut of meat, alcohol, chocolate and spicy foods are
not good for the patients with acid reflux as these foods are known to form acidity and make you uncomfortable.
